Spot Removal Guide
At West Coast Steam Clean, we’re here to help with cleaning tips even after the job is done. Here is a spot removal guide constructed for you to keep your carpets, rugs, upholstery, drapes and other areas of your house or office spot free.
Below are some general tips to remove a spot stain:
- You must act quickly as possible when a stain occurs. The longer it stays on the carpet, the harder it is to clean up.
- Find a clean rag and blot at the stain
- Apply an appropriate spot remover for the type of stain you are dealing with.
- When cleaning a spot stain, always work toward the center of the spot.
- Repeat the steps of necessary, but remember to always blot the stain with a clean towel in between the steps.
- Do a spot removal stain test on a piece of your carpet that is not quite visible.
- Do not use bleach.

Coffee/Tea/Soda/Juice
Use a white vinegar solution: mix 1/3 cup white distilled vinegar with 2/3 cup of water
- Flush with cold water/soda water
- Use white vinegar solution to blot
- Rinse with cold water and blot-dry
Urine/Animal Stains
Ammonia Solution: 1 tablespoon of clear ammonia mixed with ½ cup of water.
White vinegar solution: 1/3 cup distilled vinegar mixed with 2/3 cup of water
- Apply (non-colored) detergent solution and blot
- Use ammonia solution and blot
- Rinse with cold water and blot
- Apply white vinegar solution and blot
- Rinse with cold water and blot-dry
